New! Internet-Enabled Device Policy 2025-26

Dear UASCH Families,

As we prepare for the upcoming school year, we are writing to inform you of an important update to our school’s policy regarding student use of personal internet-enabled electronic devices, including cell phones and smartwatches.

New Policy Effective September 4, 2025: In alignment with New York State law and Chancellor’s Regulation A-413, our school will implement a new policy to ensure a focused and distraction-free learning environment. Below are the key points:

Franklin K. Lane Campus Policy Overview: FKL Policy

  • Devices Covered: All personal internet-enabled devices, including but not limited to cell phones, iPads, personal laptops, smartwatches, earbuds, smartglasses and tablets.
  • Timeframe: Devices must be stored away from bell to bell—from the start to the end of the instructional day.
  • Limited Storage: ONLY one (1) cell phone device per student will be collected and securely stored each morning during scanning. Students will retrieve their devices at dismissal. Students with early dismissal will be able to collect their devices before leaving.
  • Lost/Damaged Storage: If a storage pouch or device is lost or damaged, a nominal replacement fee (similar to school ID replacement) may apply.

Communication During the School Day

  • In case of emergencies, UASCH will use Parent Square to send pertinent communication to share urgent updates. Visit our website (www.uasch.org) for more guidance.
  • As always, families may contact the school directly at (718) 277-1572.
  • Students may request access to a school phone in the Main Office, Room 364, to contact families during emergencies.

Exceptions:  Exceptions may be granted for medical or other approved reasons. Please contact Ms. Loveday at [email protected] to request an exception. Requests will be reviewed and responded to within ten (10) business days.

Discipline: Violations of this policy will be addressed using progressive discipline in accordance with the NYCPS Discipline Code.

Other Notes: If a device is reported stolen or damaged while in school custody, we will follow our established investigation procedures. However, UASCH will not be held financially responsible for any personal, prohibited internet-enabled devices in breach of this policy.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
